1894 - This map shows how Deptford looked at the end of the 19th century. Alverton Street is Duke Street here. This was the name of the school at one time.

Hello Edward, I am attaching a photograph of my mother Eileen Lymer nee Nutt in her class at John Evelyn School. She was born in 1917 so assume this picture to have been taken about 1925/6. She was very proud of her school and as I was growing up she would sing the school song for me. She died in 2011 aged 94 but when she was about 92 I recorded her singing it or as much of it as she remembered. I can let you have a copy on disc if you are interested along with the lyrics. My father born in 1914 went to Hughes Field school in Greenwich as a boy and I have group photo's of him at school as well. If you know of anyone who has an interest in that school please let me know. Kind regards, Sally

I attended John Evelyn Junior School approximately 1959 to 1963. The headmistress at the time was Mrs Loring who we all called ‘Old Mother Loring’. My family lived at 4 Payne Street, Deptford SE8. I still have a book that I was presented with at the school in 1962 (see photos).
